Whitney Houston is dead

Whitney Houston died over the weekend, or did she? I would argue that the Whitney Houston I grew up with died so, so, long ago. I'm not saying I was a huge fan, or even really a fan at all, I'm not really into divas, but one thing is for sure, Whitney Houston could sing. To me, that's the real tragedy. A voice as good as hers was ruined by every kind of drug under the sun and a horrible choice in a husband. We can really only wonder how differently things might have transpired if she had gotten married to someone else.

Almost as soon as she married Bobby Brown her addiction to drugs exploded. I can't say for sure though if he was the cause, she very well could have been on things before she met him, but that's honestly when everything went public and she really started to fall. Whitney made several attempts at rehab, several attempts at a comeback in the music industry, it seemed like neither really worked out.

Just before her death, Whitney was touring over seas and was doing a yet to be released movie called Sparkle, which will hit theaters soon I'm sure and make a whole lot more money than it normally would have. The latest update I heard so far about cause of death was a mix of prescription drugs and alcohol. The family has repeatedly said that she did not drowned (she was found underwater in the bath tub).

Here's my opinion on the story. I honestly don't feel like this is a shock. when you go to rehab several times and continually relapse, I tend to believe that you really don't want to get better or you are not strong enough to beat the addiction. I find this situation similar to Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay could die at any time, literally any time, and I would not be shocked or surprised, just disappointed I suppose. That's how I feel about Houston. It's hard for me to show sympathy for someone who didn't seem to care a whole lot about them-self. Maybe I'm wrong though, maybe she was trying to get on the right track. I hope so, but I tend to not believe that. One thing is sure though, she was a talented woman. Just one who didn't seek fit to take care of her gift of life, or voice.

I agree with most of what you wrote, except that I absolutely feel sympathy for someone who is unable to beat an addiction. She knew she was going down in flames, and yet she was still unable to stop the train. Just a very sad ending. :-/
